[Storm clouds are gathering over a part of the city again. The dead walk.

Saul, alive and looking well, is a short way away from the doors of the warehouse where he met his end, two weeks past, not standing, but kneeling, head bowed and hands together. Praying softly in his own language, a rising and falling murmur. The words are unintelligible, but full of intent.

As he rises to his feet, a wind sweeps up around him. Nothing of his power has been lessened by death, it seems.]

Make this a first sacrifice.

[The lightning bolt punches clean through the roof of the building, smashing it to pieces and shattering every window. Soon a fire is burning. In some hours, the place where he died would be nothing but ash and ruins.

Saul nods to himself, in profound satisfaction. He salutes the pyre.]

Praise spirits, land and gods. I am alive.

[It's a rainy day at Adstringendum, but as the feed clicks on, the heavy fog that has been shrouding the Northwestern riverside appears to have lifted. Saul is just outside his house, kneeling at his Mehregan altar. Though both it and his outfit are far less fancy and decorated than last year, he is just as intent on his prayer, perhaps even more.

It's clear - and not just to the discerning onlooker - that he still is not properly recovered from his run-in with the Kyuubi - still bandaged in places, still stiff and even a little shaky. Not an unexpected fate for someone who heals at a normal human rate and hasn't sought the help of any healer. His hair hasn't been cut in a while and the rain turns it into a damp mane, more brown than golden, falling over his face.

As he finishes his prayer, though, and softly sings his holiday song, there's a subtle change in the weather: a parting of the clouds, and the view is briefly washed in shimmering sunlight. Sail opens one eye, then the other, and smiles. More likely it's just good luck, rather than divine providence; but Saul is a great believer in luck.]

[The feed is switched on by a random crackling of electricity, the origin of which is soon revealed. The place is Unohana's clinic, one of the rooms; the video shows Saul sitting next to a bed, tattered and wounded, his head in his hands. He doesn't look percisely sad or broken, more tired - and focusd. There's a very faint buzz in the air around him, like static electricity, giving the air in the room a soft eerie low.

In the bed lies Carmen's body - if only she'd been breathing, she'd have looked asleep. But of course, she isn't.

Saul speaks very quietly.]

Spirits of this land, powers of this world... I've kept true. I have stayed my blade when you wished me to, I have always spoken in your favor. My fortune is yours to decide.

We've only just begun to understand each other. Don't take her... not yet.

[The prayer spoken, he lets his hands drop to his sides, and leans back in the chair, eyes closed, calm now.]

[The feed clicks on at random to an odd view: just outside of Saul's house, on the grassy riverfront, stands a low table decorated with fresh branches, flowers, fruits and even the occasional sweet. A dish of water with a pair of shining silver coins in it, and a mirror propped up, complete the small shrine - as that's rather obviously what it is. Saul is at the head of the table, kneeling, wearing bright festive clothes that he almost definitely sewed by himself. His head is down, hands on his knees. It's not hard to figure out that he is praying.

After a long minute of silence, he finally raises his head and moves back a little from the table, apparently still not noticing that the PCD is recording. He picks up a cup from the table, drinks it down in one gulp, then sits back, grinning. After another moment, he starts to sing softly in his own language. He isn't very good but not entirely bad.

The feed captures pretty much the whole song, before fading out.]

((OOC: I guess it'd sound a bit like this. Happy equinox, everyone XDDD))
